In the words of Capt. Melvin (Rob Rowell) from his journal of 18 May, 2002:

Of course the advantage of reenacting is that the dead are resurrected and get together with their attackers after the battle for camaraderie, and we did just that. By the time the battle was over Sue had finished cooking the ham and put out a wonderful meal of Roast Maple Glazed Ham, Steamed Asparagus with melted butter, Fresh Bread, Cheese, and a Rhubarb Pie for dessert. Of course Ale and Stout were available for those so inclined.

We spent several hours eating, talking, discussing the event and other historical subjects and frankly having a fine afternoon!

One thing everyone agreed, it was a worthwhile event and a great location to hold it, so next year, the third weekend in May, will be .THE SECOND ANNUAL SALMON HOLE MASSACRE. If you're interested in participating email me, the weather has GOT to be better next year!

Respectfully Submitted

Yr Most Humble Servant

Capt. Eleazer Melvin
(Rob Rowell)

When the reenactment was over, Rob gave a few words to and answered questions for a very interested audience, who probably outnumbered the combatants! These folks all cheered for a repeat next year, and thanked us all, as we thanked them!
Finally, we all gathered at the Rowell's camp. On the fire-irons over a fire, Sue and family had been roasting a really big ham, basted with maple syrup, and it was FABULOUS. Along with that, we had bread plus asparagus and butter. Jon and Steve sang their Pirate Song. We also had beverages including the King's Ale and homemade lemon shrub (compliments of myself). And then Jon and Steve sang their Pirate Song. And then we had a bit of wine, and Jon and Steve sang their Pirate Song. The Chandler brothers Med and Jack tried to sing along but didn't get as far with it -- keep working on it, lads.

During this time, those of us who hadn't met yet got to make new friends, most of whom were on the other side. The children, meanwhile, played war battles on the tabletop with Master Flint's pewter soldiers.
